Silk Mills once played a major role in the Economy of Northeastern PA. The men would go to work in the Mines and on the Railroads, and the wives and daughters working in the Silk Mills, Lace Companies, and other textile and garment related trades. More recently, most of these regional jobs have been lost to foreign workers.
