Delicate Bridge Once Main Line

This Delicate bridge was once a main line, The Bloomsburg Line.   It looks lightweight, but I am sure it was built to hold the steam locomotives of the day.  Therefore it will easily handle the present day diesels.

This bridge was operated by several roads.  The Lackawanna, and then the Erie Lackawanna.  Circa 1976 this trackage was conveyed to CONRAIL.  Later the Pocono Northeast operated it.  Currently the Luzerne Susquehanna operates it for the County Redevelopment Authority.

The lateral members look almost like wrenches.  They look real thin.  The upper part of the truss has a lot of cross members in it.  It is a very photogenic bridge.  Some of the piers seem to be retrofitted with concrete around it.

It is hard to believe that this held the Bloomsburg Line, collecting all the coal traffic from the South, from mines around Nanticoke, Plymouth and Moquanaqua.
