Here are some shots of the trestle in Mocanaqua, PA.

Reminds me of a little story my father told me :

This Is Why You Don't Want To Hop Trains

My father told me that when they were growing up a lot of his friends used to hop trains in the East End Section of WIlkes-Barre.   Maybe they used to hop them in Brookside or Parsons and ride them back to East End.

Well the one kid hopped the train near the Butler Street Bridge.   I guess he thought it was gonna be a short ride to his house.

The train, a freight train, took off and quickly gained speed.  It was going too fast to jump off.   By the time it slowed enough for him to jump off. he was in Mocanaqua.

(That was a lot further then he wanted to go.)

Tidbit :

From 1991 CONRAIL Timetable :

Taylor Secondary Track

Distance from Hoboken

136.7 TAYLOR (D&H Railway)
136.7 BLS MINOOKA
139.7 OLD FORGE
142.8 PITTSTON JCT.
  (Lehigh Sec and

(Why is the distance

trains have not run
to Hoboken in many,
 many years ???)
