Mine RR Underpass

Here are shots of what was an underpass for narrow gauge mine railroad tracks at River Street in Plains, PA. The trackage ran between the Prospect and Dorrance Collieries.

At the present day, dirt has been used to fill in the area and the underpass is blocked off. There were ties and some small spikes in the inside of the tunnel.

On the outside of the underpass or tunnel as you might call it there are spool insulators. Before the area was filled in you could see the insulators inside the tunnel on the roof.

The area in the foreground of the pictures was the Prospect Viaduct of the Laurel Line. It was removed in the late 80\'s when PennDot got a State Grant to remove hazardous Railroad Bridges. The Prospect Viaduct had a low clearance and a dangerous pier in the center of the road.
