Garage Sale Leads To Culm DumpsThe one weekend I ran into signs for a Community Yard Sale in Avoca. I parked my car and started walking around. A large culm dump loomed over the development. A trail lead down to it. I had to investigate. The culm dump was probably left over from the Pennsylvania Coal Company Breaker in Hughestown if I remember correctly. The track is former Erie trackage. It was called the Avoca Industrial Track under Conrail and was conveyed to Pocono Northeast RR. Currently the trackage goes for Langcliffe Junction to the LPG loading station, crosses McAlpine Street on a trestle and goes south to Hughestown were it is disconnected at the first road it hit. It used to service Kappa Graphics, but they have not recieved cars in many years.
