By the Butler Mine Tunnel As you approach this spot, you can smell an oily, arcid smell. The Butler Mine Tunnel is below. After all these years it still stinks. People were dumping tankerloads of toxic wast into bore holes some miles away. The oily, contaminants worked its way underground and came out in the Susquehamna River.
