Here is the Butler Mine Tunnel Outfall in Pittston. This is what caused all the problems in the early 1980's. They were dumping tanker trucks of industrial waste into a borehole in Pittston Twp. Mixed in with the oil there were cyanide and benzene. The great fear was the cyanide was going to mix with the acid mine drainage and act like the Gas Chamber. People were afraid posion gas was going to seep into thier houses and kill them. But the cyanide compounds were apparently too little or impure to cause this. This is the outfall were all the water comes out of the mines .... when it rains ... oil and other chemicals come out as well.
