Washout at Hudson

November 18, 2006

Thursday night we had extremely heavy rains. Much flooding and damage to roads. The road bridge in the Irishtown Section of Plains (Hudson) was knocked off its foundation. The water was flowing over the bridges at Rt 315 and in Scott Street - some houses along the creek lost 10 feet of yard. I assume the railroads took damage as well. Tonight, there was a Hi-Rail truck and some MOW equip at Hudson - I guess they were fixing damaged track. Saturday morning it was clear what had happened - there the creek made a curve the water took out the bank that the track was on. A lot of heavy equipment at trucks were there fixing the washout. Around 4 - trains were heard passing through Wilkes-Barre again.
