stg10-03 Live from the field via my Sharp Wizard 1Mb : The R and N passenger special was on its way North from Jim Thorpe to the Duryea area. I was at home monitoring my scanner geting ready to go. The detector went off at Laurel run and I heard some radio traffic. This was my cue. Go Go Go !!! Quickly I loaded 400 speed Fuji Superia into my K-1000, grabbed my scanner,Wizard, and a sandwich and left. I got to my fav spot at Railroad Street in Duryea. There must have been like 15cars parked along the road and maybe 20 people taking pictures. A lot of people turned out. One fellow came all the way up from Palmerton, and hos wife was riding the train. I heard the --.- at the crossing thatwas by what used to be the Pot Belly Bar. Two of the new SD45 units were the power and the passengers were all happy and waving to us. Then I decided to try to catch it in the Narrows above Coxton. I meet a guy from Duryea that went to High School with my mother. Small world. The train stopped at Coxton and procededon. The train RIPPED by at about 50. A unit was now coupled to both ends of the train, now running push-pull style. I only got like 6 shots off. It passed by in a flurry of leaves. Some of the trees were starting to turn, and geese coukd be heard overhead. CMSX gons full of ballast were at the lower part of the yard. Some MOW equip was in the upper yard. On the Kerr-McGee lead in Avova, a brush cutter MOW piece was parked. My scanner crackled to life - another westbound train at Laurel run. I got bored waiting for it so I went to Taylor. At Moosic, on thr CP line, more MOW equip, near the new park. Taylor was empty, but something must be comming, as two Agway trucks are waiting. After 5 mins the signal on the main lights up yellow, red, red and it starts to rain lightly. A train approches and the trucks move back.
